The entire French aluminum industry is responding to Bruno Le Maire’s call for economic solidarity and is mobilizing to try to maintain production by actively working to fight the spread of the virus. The health and safety of personnel has been a top priority in our industry for many years.

As advised on Wednesday March 18 by the Minister of Economy and Finance, and in order to guarantee the good economic health of the country, the various activities of Aluminum France members must continue; These are more than 50 industrial sites and nearly 10,000 employees who, upstream from many other industries, contribute to the economic and social influence of France.

We are now calling for an industrial leap. It is our duty to ensure the good economic and social health of the country, so as not to add precariousness to the current situation. We call for the mobilization of each industrialist; we cannot afford to stop our various activities, especially those with a continuous process (alumina and primary aluminum), even temporarily; some factories would not recover. Aluminum is essential in particular in the pharmaceutical and agro-food sectors, where it improves – through packaging – the conditions of conservation and distribution of products. We have therefore made the choice to maintain our activities to preserve employment and support the strategic sectors of the moment, by implementing the appropriate measures to protect employees.

Despite the protective measures taken by our members, the continuity of our activities is at risk: on some sites, we lack sanitary equipment to maintain production, and our economic ecosystems are severely affected. Some of our clients, in particular major contractors, cease their activities, which weakens our sector. We must avoid economic burn-out and take up the great challenge of solidarity in the face of COVID-19 all together.
