At the end of May, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe chaired the Executive Committee of the National Industry Council (CNI). Ministers Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy and Finance and Muriel Pénicaud, Minister of Labor were present. On this occasion, the Prime Minister announced the labeling of six new sectors, in particular for Mines and metallurgy.

During this meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Industry Council (CNI), Édouard Philippe detailed the results of the actions launched last fall as well as the new work priorities of the CNI for the coming months. He also presented the various measures to support the development of French industry, in particular to meet the recruitment needs of industrial companies.

The Mining and Metallurgy Sector Strategic Committee (CSF) brings together the players in theextraction of production , transformation and recycling of metals around professional organizations A3M, Aluminum France, Fédération Forge Fonderie, UIMM and the Group of Steel and Metallurgical Enterprises (GESiM); it will be chaired by Christel Bories, CEO of the ERAMET Group. Among the priorities of the CSF are the following projects:

  • Accelerating digital transformation in mining and metallurgy through better exploitation and sharing of data pools
  • The development of an integrated recycling channel for lithium batteries .

Apart from these priorities, the National Industry Council has entrusted the CSF Mines and Metallurgy and the General Council for the Economy, Industry, Energy and Technologies with a mission on raw materials aimed at:

  • Better understand the vulnerability of the raw material supply chains of French industrial companies,
  • Identify the riskiest supply channels and propose measures to reduce the exposure of companies.

This mission is welcome for our sector which too regularly has to face sanctions from the United States which endanger our industry.

To support the CSFs, two new tools will appear:

  • Digital CNI – Co-chaired by the Secretary of State to the Minister of the Economy and Finance, and the Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, in charge of digital, this committee aims to accelerate the transformation of the fabric French industrialist towards the Industry of the Future thanks to digital technology.
  • CNI International – Under the co-chairmanship of the Secretary of State to the Minister of the Economy and Finance, and of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the committee aims to bring together the actors public and private companies concerned by exports, with a view to boosting exports from French industry.

The 16 sectors are now labeled with the objective of signing all sector contracts by the end of 2018 . In the meantime, the next CNI Comex will take place on September 10 and will be chaired by Bruno Le Maire. A plenary meeting of the CNI will be organized on November 22, 2018, at the Extraordinary Factory at the Grand Palais, and will be chaired by the Prime Minister.
